Your gym bag is an extension of your home, serving as a small on-the-go lifesaver. Unfortunately, you can’t bring your entire house to Zone, so you settle on packing the essentials like a towel, shoes, and workout clothes. But what about after your workout? No one wants to lug a full-size shampoo, conditioner, and body wash into the shower. Your arm strength is most likely non-existent after bench-presses! What do you bring? For your convenience, Zone Health and Fitness compiled a list of the basics of gym survival below.
- Water bottle
- Workout gloves
- Face wipes
- Dry shampoo
- Extra clothes
- Hand sanitizer
- Hair brush
- Makeup wipes
- Microfiber towel
- Travel size shampoo, conditioner, and body wash
Space – especially pocket space – is priceless in your gym bag. There will never be enough room to bring every necessity to the gym unless you wear cargo pants. Since no one works out with conditioner in their pockets, you settle for tossing daily items into a duffel. Priceless items like earrings and hair ties get lost in the dark abyss of your workout bag, never to be seen again. Were you searching for your earbuds? Forget it. They’re now living wherever the dryer thief stores your unmatched socks.

Bobby Pin Tic Tac Holder (image from www.thekrazycouponlady.com)
If you’re the queen of losing bobby pins, stuff them into an old tic tac container! You’ll never lose pins again!
Contact Case Facewash Carrier
Instead of stuffing your entire facewash into the gym bag, pour a small amount into a contact case. When it comes time to use it, unscrew the contact case, and voila! The perfect amount of facewash without ever having to bring the bottle.
Glasses Case Mini-Makeup Bag
Use a small glasses case to store your makeup brushes and basic makeup – like tinted BB cream, mascara, and lip balm.
Shower Curtain Clip Hair Tie Holder
Much like the bobby pin carrier, the shower curtain clip is excellent for keeping all your hair ties in one place. Never dig through the bottom of your duffel bag again in search of one, single hair tie.
Tea Bag, Baking Soda, and Dryer Sheet Deodorizers
Your gym bag, shoes, and socks may never smell like the day you took them home from the sporting goods store. Gone are the days of freshness. Now, you open your gym bag in a dark corner, away from prying eyes and sensitive noses. Your eyes may even water when the zipper slides open. Did someone pass out behind you? Yes? It’s time to deal with your gym bag. To combat rank odor, try leaving tea bags or a dryer sheet in your gym bag and shoes. Baking soda deodorizers works best for shoes as well.
Travel Size Toiletries
When you purchase full-size conditioner, shampoo, and body wash, search for packs that come with a free travel size companion. Now you have one for home and the gym. Score! Dollar Store has plastic travel size bottles you fill with your own body care products at home.
Going a step further, search for travel size toiletry bottles that come with a hole on the end of the container. Hook a small key ring to the hole, and clip that to a lanyard. Now, you can loop the lanyard around the shower head to prevent ever having to stoop in search of your body wash again!
Rubber Flip Flops
Despite the vigilant efforts of gym sanitization, going barefoot seems uncomfortable to some. Purchase a pair of rubber flip flops to appease the germaphobe within.
Complimentary Blow Dryer and Flat Iron
Zone Health and Fitness offers its members the option to blow dry and flat iron their hair. Each bathroom is equipped with these hair care items, so take advantage of having smooth, clean hair without having to pack the bulky items in your gym bag.
